Welcome to Basic Training (AKA: Tutorial)[]

BasicTraining

The Tutorial is the first map that new users play in order to unlock both Skyhammer and Aura.

The Tutorial is also known as 'Basic Training' and key fundamental skills are learnt during this course.

If you are new to Dirty Bomb, please read this guide to the Tutorial so you can play on top form!

Please note this tutorial below uses DEFAULT key binds. Therefore, unless you have purposely changed this, the instructions below will be correct.

Skyhammer: Entering the Tutorial[]

BT Entry

On first entering the tutorial, Skyhammer will be presented with a cutscene of the Dirty Bomb wasteland. This cutscene is completed by zooming into the player's head. This then allows the person playing the tutorial, which we'll call the player, to take control of Skyhammer.

A message box will appear, asking the player to move forward using the W A S and D keys. (Forwards, Left, Right and Back). Once the player has done this, they will then reach the next part of the tutorial.

Tutorial Part 1: Jumping[]

BT TicketBarrier

This is the part of the tutorial where the player will learn the basics of Mercenary control. Each character that the player uses is called a Mercenary, or Merc for short.

After reaching the door from the first part of the tutorial, the user will need to jump over the ticket barriers. (We don't advise doing this in real life, no matter how late you are!)

To jump over the ticket barriers, aim your crosshairs just above the top of the ticket barrier and press space while moving forward. It's simpler than it sounds! Once you have done this, the voice will congratulate you and tell you to move onto the next objective. This is a major point of note in Dirty Bomb: Never stop moving. A stationary target is a dead target, so move onto the next objective.

Once the player has jumped the ticket barriers, it must follow the corridors to the next Objective.

Tutorial Part 2: Crouching[]

BT Crouching

The next part of the tutorial is to learn how to crouch.

If you have the default key-bind setup chosen, the following will apply to you.

When faced with this obstacle, a player should hold down the Left Control (Ctrl) key on their Keyboard. This will then crouch the player. The player can then use the WASD keys to move around while crouching. It is important to note the increased weapon stability when crouching - It can give increased weapon accuracy at the cost of movement speed. Therefore, during the middle of combat, unless the player is completely sure of what they are doing, crouching is not advised.

Do NOT crouch during the Assault Course. However, that is a different topic outside of this tutorial.

Tutorial Part 3: Sprinting[]

BT Sprinting

Sprinting is a simple skill, however, can be so useful in combat.

To complete this part of the tutorial, the player must simply just sprint from one end of the hall to the other.

Once they have completed this, the game will guide the player onto the next part of the Tutorial.

Tutorial Part 4: Combat[]

BT Combat

This is the main part of the tutorial. As a new player, you'll most likely be playing with Skyhammer for a while until you can afford another Merc and/or feel comfortable enough to experiment with the Free Rotation mercs. For the latest Mercs on free Rotation, please visit the Home Page, where 'Free Rotation' will be on the right.

This stage focusses on the Primary Weapon and the Melee Weapon. In Skyhammer's case, this is his knife, however, some Loadouts may give him the Cricket Bat.

You will also be asked to switch to your Seconday weapon. This can be done by pressing 2.

Merc HQ (The voiceover) will then ask you to place down an ammo pack and pick one up again on the yellow square. This can be done by pressing E. To reclaim the Ammo pack, just walk back over it!

You will then come to a mini Assault Course!

BT Course

The objective of the Assault Course is to move as quickly as possible, while shooting down enemies. As you finish the Assault Course, you will move onto another room, to learn how to Assist & Repair.

Tutorial Part 4a: Helping Up[]

BT Generator

After completing the mini Assault course, you will come across this room. To complete this room, you need to fix the generator. The Generator is the yellow box over on the right, by the wall. To fix the generator, Hold down F while crouching. When fixing Generators in combat, it is always beneficial to crouch while doing so, as it makes you a smaller target.

BT HelpingUp

Once the gas has been cleared from the room, the door will open and you can help the dummy. Once inside, go over to the dummy, and crouch beside them. (This is to provide cover) and hold F to help them up. Once they're up, give them an ammo pack.

Then switch to Aura.

Tutorial Part 5: Medic! (Aura)[]

BT Medic

After you have completed Stage 1 of training with Skyhammer, you will learn how to use Medic abilities. After repairing the Generator in the last part of the Skyhammer tutorial, you will come onto learning Aura's abilities. The image above is part of a cut scene that the players sees after switching to Aura. This only happens in the Tutorial.

Aura only has one room to complete, but it is in this room that the Defibrillator is used, and a Health Station is also placed. For Medics, this is a very important skill that the player will need to know.

Once Aura enters the room, she'll see this:

BT DummyDown

Once she has used the Defibrillator, she can place down a Health Station as shown below:

BT HealthStation

Once she has done this, Merc HQ will instruct the player to switch back to Skyhammer "to see if he wants to blow some more stuff up!".

Tutorial Part 6: Airstrike![]

BT Skyhammer

After switching back to Skyhammer, the player will find themselves in this room, with a balcony in front of them.

To complete this room, the player must run onto the balcony and use the Airstrike ability on the Generator. This will also wipe out 4 enemy dummies that are also lying in wait.

This can be seen from the image below:

BT Airstrike

To fire the Airstrike, the player can press Q, while aiming their crosshairs directly at the Generator.

Tutorial Complete![]

BT Final

You've completed the tutorial! Welcome to Dirty Bomb, Have fun and Remember to Play Dirty!

Good Luck & Have Fun!
