Upcoming data imports

Hello everyone. I wanted to let everyone that we're planning to set up the wiki for regular imports of data extracted from the game to the wiki. I expect to be writing/editing templates for this over the weekend.

At first, this will include data for:

  • Weapons (and other items the characters use)
  • Characters/Mercs
  • Badges
  • Augments

We expect to later also add data for maps and possibly loadouts. You can see something of an example of how these data imports are handled on Prismata Wiki. This page partly covers how they work. But the basic idea is that we periodically run a bot that creates and edits pages in the Data namespace with fresh data, and creates new pages in the main namespace that don't already exist. (But it never edits existing pages outside of the Data namespace.) When I set things up for this, I will work as much as possible to keep existing templates working and use the existing styles, but I can't guarantee that some changes won't be required. Normally, we'd jump into this faster, but then, normally we're ready to do imports before a wiki starts getting active. That didn't happen in this case, so I wanted to leave some warning and provide a chance to look things over a bit before I start work this time. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig.png 23:53, 30 April 2015 (UTC)

We've had the first import last week, and I have most things in place. The biggest disappointment is getting only generic names for the weapons. I'm going to talk to the guy who's handling the extraction side of it to see if we can get the correct names automatically. Otherwise, this may have to be lined up manually using the force_name parameter on {{WeaponInfo}} and then moving the page to the correct name after figuring out which is which. :(

Plus the visual layout for WeaponInfo could probably stand to be tweaked further yet, such as rearranging stats or maybe calculating some fields. Let me know what you think. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig.png 04:58, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

Hi, I need a little editing help, please. I posted a question here: Template_talk:LoadoutItem

I was kind of pulling my hair out trying to find my own watchlist. I finally found it in the special pages section, which was not really intuitive for me. And that's where the user preferences are too.

I would like to suggest a more convenient and common addition, that is, adding links to both the watchlist and user prefs under one of the icons at the top right (profile or notifications icons).Spaceboy909 (talk) 21:44, 14 November 2015 (UTC)

When you hover your mouse over your username at the top right, you don't see a dropdown appear with "My User Page", "Talk", "Preferences", etc? Or are you viewing the site on a mobile device? oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig.png 22:04, 14 November 2015 (UTC)

It seems the problem was my zoom tool in my browser. I always have to have my pages zoomed because of my bad eyes plus sitting 5 feet back from my screen, and sometimes the browser makes things disappear beyond a certain zoom level. My username wasn't showing at all, but once I zoomed out it popped up. Thanks! :) Spaceboy909 (talk) 07:11, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
